Barbeque Maintenance Tips

When purchasing your barbeque grill, think of it as an investment rather then just another item for your outdoor entertainment. You should expect this item to become a large part of your outdoor activities for many years to come. But like any other investments, proper maintenance and care is needed to ensure that your barbeque grill will work for you for many years to come. While some maintenance and cleaning is specific to the type of barbeque grill your own (gas, electric, charcoal or smoke barbecue grill), the majority of maintenance that should be carried on does not change from grill to grill.

Step 1- Gathering The Necessary Items

You will need some common household items on hand when it comes time to clean your barbeque grill.

Brass wire grill brush
Steel wool pads, preferably that contains soap already.
Mild dish soap
Sponge or dishcloth
Spray cooking oil
Dry baking soda
Aluminum foil

Step 2- Brushing Your Grill Off

The first thing that should always be done to your grill is a routine brushing. Using your brass wire grill brush (or other brush suitable to your type of grill) you should brush off all the surfaces. By routinely brushing your barbeque grill, you will prevent any type of buildup. If buildup from food is left to long, it can become increasingly difficult to remove.

Step 3- Spray Cooking Oil

Once you are sure that your grill is free of all buildup and debris, and that your grill is completely cooled off, you will want to spray it down with a light layer of cooking oil. Spraying it down with cooking oil will prevent your barbeque grill from rusting. It is especially important to make sure your barbeque grill is completely cold, as spraying cooking oil on a hot surface may cause the oil to heat up and ignite, which could be potentially dangerous to you and your barbeque grill.

Step 4- Use Baking Soda and Aluminum Foil on Your Grill

Baking soda is a very nice cleaning and polishing agent. Once you have removed any extra debris and buildup, lightly scrubbing your barbeque grill with baking soda will give it that extra shine, similar to the day that you brought it home from the store. This can also be used on handles and knobs to remove any extra buildup that cannot be taken off with a wire brush.

Aluminum foil can also be used to keep your grill looking nice. Gently rub the aluminum foil on your grill, and you will notice that it removes grim and buildup.

Step 5- Clean Your Racks

The racks in your grill are especially important as this is where the food touches when it is cooking. You will have to use the wire brush to remove as much buildup as possible. Once you remove as much as possible, start washing the racks with dish soap. If the racks are really dirty, you may also want to use the steel wool pads. Be sure to completely rinse off all soap and residue before cooking on these racks again.

Step 6- Preventing Problems

The majority of problems that arise from barbeque grills comes from lack of cleaning and maintenance. That means if you notice something does not seem quite right with your barbeque grill, chances are it can be fixed with just a simple cleaning. Even if you clean it, and still find that it is having problems, at least you saved yourself the potential embarrassment of taking it to a professional only to find out all it needed was to be cleaned.

Finally, one method of preventing problems with your barbeque grill is protecting it from the outdoors. Covers are available for grills in all shapes and sizes, so chances are, you will find one that fits your grill. If you have a cover for your barbeque grill, then all you will ever need to do is do the regular maintenance listed above.

Planning a Backyard Barbeque Party

If you regularly cook your meals on a barbeque grill, you are not alone. Grilling is a popular American pastime. While many individuals end up grilling for their family, not everyone makes the decision to host a backyard barbeque party, despite the fact that it is a good idea. If you are interested in socializing and sharing good food with your friends, family, coworkers, or neighbors, you may want to, at least, think about planning a backyard barbeque party.

Backyard barbeque parties, like most other parties, require planning. While the planning associated with a backyard barbeque may not be as large as most other parties, it is still important. The proper planning of a party, including a barbeque, will help to ensure that your party is the best that it can be. For that reason, you may want to start making party plans as soon as you make the decision to host a party.

Since backyard barbeque parties are centered on food, you will want to think about the food that you will serve. To please all of your party guests, you will want to have a fairly large selection of meats. This will help to make sure that all of your party guests are able to eat the foods that they like. In addition to meats, you may also want to think about side dishes. Popular barbeque party side dishes may include, but should not be limited to, toss salads, macaroni salads, coleslaw, and fruit salads.

In addition to the foods that you are interested in serving, you may also want to plan how those foods will be made. Of course, the purpose of a barbeque party is to grill the foods then, but most of the side dishes will need to be prepared ahead of time. To ensure that all of your side dishes are prepared on time, you may want to start cooking them the day before your barbeque or earlier that morning. If you are having a large party, you may need to make a large amount of food. If this is the cases, it may be a good idea to have party guests bring a small side dish.

Aside from the main food, served at your barbecue, you may also want to think about drinks and snacks. For a reasonable price, you should be able to obtain a number of different snacks for your barbeque. Great snack ideas include crackers and cheese, cookies, chips, and pretzels. For drinks, you need to decide as to whether or not you want alcoholic beverages served at your party. Regardless of whether or not you choose to serve alcohol, you should be able to purchase your party drinks from most supermarkets.

While backyard barbeques are center on food, additional activities may be a good idea. At most department stores, you should be able to find a number of affordable toys or backyard activities. Many individuals, especially teens or adult males, enjoy playing sports. A football, basketball or horseshoe pit may be a great addition to your backyard barbeque. If children will be attending your party, you may want to have child friendly games on hand.

If you have a pool, it may be a good idea to incorporate swimming into your backyard barbeque; however, it is optional. If you are planning on allowing your party guests to use your pool, you may want to think about establishing some rules. These rules should focus on pool safety and children in the pool. While establishing rules at your barbeque may seem like a bad idea, it is not, especially when it comes to pool safety.

Of course, you will also want to invite your guests to your party. This can be done with formal invitations, a quick phone call, or a quick email. In addition to informing guest of your impending barbeque party, a guest list may also help you prepare for the big day.

Cooking On the Grill

Summertime is rapidly approaching. This means it is time to begin preparing meals without heating the house whenever possible. If you haven’t considered the value of cooking on the grill in the past, perhaps now is a great time to adjust your way of thinking.

Cooking on the grill is a great way to keep the heat of cooking outside your home as well as to bring the family together for the entire cooking process. Moms read: this is a great way to get dad to help out with meal preparation. While this is said somewhat in jest, there is some truth to the fact that men are much more inclined to slave away over a hot grill than a hot stove. More importantly, most of the mess of cooking on the grill remains outside your kitchen. I don’t know about you, but that is a huge bonus for me, when it comes to cooking.

Cooking on the grill is also a great way to get the kids involved in the meal preparation and clean up process. We like to use disposable plates when grill cooking and keep the dining al fresco. If you are hoping for instant family unity over the picnic table you might want to think again but there isn’t anything quite like it when it comes to not worrying about spills or dropped food as you can rest fairly certain that the animals will take care of anything that gets left behind.

Even small children can help when cooking on the grill by bringing utensils to the grill, holding plates, and ‘setting’ the picnic table for your dining experience. If you intend to do a good deal of cooking on the grill you may want to invest in some portable and ‘kid friendly’ containers for things such as condiments, napkins, plastic ware, and tablecloth holders. Be sure to find containers that can handle a decent gust of wind without flying off too. These may be a little heavier for your little ones to hold but they won’t be nearly as difficult to chase when blowing across the lawn.

Cooking on the grill is a great way to enjoy nature after a long day of work. Be careful that you do not reserve this as a weekend event as you will find you miss out on some of the relaxing qualities it can bring to your midweek slump. One thing that can definitely be said about grill cooking is that the selections are almost as limitless as they are when cooking on the stove. You must use your imagination for maximum effect though very few meats and vegetables are truly off limits when it comes to cooking on the grill.

In addition to cooking meats on the grill, it is important to keep in mind that you can also cook all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables on the grill as well. You should also keep in mind the awesome side dishes that go great with grilled foods such as baked beans, potato salad, and nice cool deserts and pies.

Cooking on the grill is a great way to bring family and friends together. The next time you plan to have a get together why not make it a night of cooking on the grill? You can have the best of all worlds with no muss, no fuss clean up and great food with good friends. Cooking on the grill is certainly a great way to get the neighbors out and about. There’s nothing on earth that can quite compare to the aroma of meat, fruit, and vegetables grilling over hot charcoal. If you don’t remember and your mouth isn’t watering just reading about, it’s been far too long since your last barbecue experience.

The most important thing to remember about cooking on the grill is that it should be an experience rather than a chore. Most of us truly enjoy the thought of having a good dinner under the sun or stars (whichever applies in your case). If you haven’t tried this in a while, it’s time to dust off the grill and refresh your memory and your taste buds.

Properly Cleaning Your Grill

When purchasing your barbeque grill, think of it as an investment rather then just another item for your outdoor entertainment. You should expect this item to become a large part of your outdoor activities for many years to come. But like any other investments, proper maintenance and care is needed to ensure that your barbeque grill will work for you for many years to come.

Leaving you grill messy after each use will not only make it harder on you when you finally do clean the grill, but it will also drastically decrease the lifespan of your grill. If you grill sits dirty, you increase the risk of rust.

While some maintenance and cleaning is specific to the type of barbeque grill your own (gas, electric, charcoal or smoke barbecue grill), the majority of maintenance that should be carried on does not change from grill to grill.

Portable Charcoal Grill

We used to have a portable gas grill that we would use for picnics. It worked alright, but the food it cooked didn’t taste all that good. You see, many people think that barbecuing is always fun, but not all portable bbq grills are the same. It is not a good idea to use profane because it will give your food a slightly bitter flavor, whereas a portable charcoal grill will give it a smokier and more natural taste. It only cost a little bit of money, and it sure is a lot of fun.

Since we bought it, we have taken the portable barbecue grill everywhere. You’d be amazed by how many places you can take portable charcoal grills. Even when we go to the state park which has outdoor grills available for public use, we still usually take the portable charcoal grill. You see, last Fourth of July we thought we would just use one of the public grills out there. They are bigger, after all, are higher up off the ground, and a slightly safer. When we got there and couldn’t find one that wasn’t occupied, however, we realized that we should have brought a portable charcoal grill along.

Even with a big group, with portable charcoal grilling you can make enough food if you plan things well. I have been spoiled, I admit, by working on a commercial charcoal grill that we have at home in our backyard. When I decided to go out to the lake taking only the portable charcoal grill along, I was a little bit skeptical that I would be able to make food for all 15 of my friends who were coming. Nevertheless, with a little bit of tweaking, the portable charcoal grill works great. It had two rows of racks so that you can grill twice as much at once, and if you carefully move the meat around, you can get every cut to just the perfect temperature for whoever is requesting it.

Of course, if you use a portable charcoal grill without the right charcoal, things won’t taste quite as good. Many people don’t recognize the difference, but once you use smoker charcoal, you will not give it up. Although using regular charcoal is better than propane, it doesn’t compare to smoking the meat with some good smoker charcoal. It is enough to make your portable charcoal grill experience complete.

Rotisserie Smoker

My parents never really taught me how to cook, and so when I moved out, I had to figure everything out on my own. I was a pretty quick study, all things considered, but even so I was kept to pretty basic things. I lived on stir fried meals and Ramen noodles for the first couple years, in fact! I certainly did not know more than a few ways to cook meat. I would either do it in a pan or in a skillet. I could make decent baked chicken, and pan frying meat is pretty easy, but I did not know anything very interesting to do with it. Then my friend Jason showed me his barbecue rotisserie smoker.

I had never seen rotisserie kits before, except in commercial kitchen. As a matter of fact, I did not know that rotisserie bbq was something that you could do on your own. Jason showed me what I had been missing out on. The rotisserie smoker chicken was not as god as the stuff I had had in restaurants – it was better. You see, when you rotisserie smoke meat at home, you can carefully control every aspect of the cooking. You can use just the right barbecue chips, keep everything at just the right temperature, and make sure that the meat is neither overcooked nor under done. You will know when you taste perfect rotisserie smoker chicken – there is nothing like it. And chicken was just the beginning.

Soon, I was using the rotisserie smoker to cook anything and everything. Generally speaking, if it was a meat and I couldn’t rotisserie BBQ it, I wasn’t eating it. In some ways, this was actually very good for my health. You see, using that rotisserie kit took a lot of time. I couldn’t just throw some chicken on the skillet with the vegetables anymore. I had to plan my meals – something which I rarely had the energy to do. As a result, I was eating much less meat. Soon, I was losing weight very quickly. My friends told me I looked better than I had in years. The funny thing is that none of them could figure it out. I would have them over and feed them delicious smoked chicken, pork, ribs, and other fatty delicacies. None of them had any idea how I could be losing weight while I was eating like that. I decided to let it remain a mystery.

Barbecue Sauce Recipe

In general, I am not a chef. In my house, I do very little of the cooking, although I do enjoy it when I get the chance. The one thing that I have always loves to cook, and insist on cooking every time, is barbecued meat. I love barbecuing, grilling, roasting, smoking – anything that involves placing a good cut of meat over high heat and open flames.

I have to confess that one of the things I like about this form of cooking is that it is so easy to get good results. As long as you have the rights barbeque sauce, you can not go wrong. Until recently, I never had to try a barbecue sauce recipe, because there was a locally made barbecue sauce called Memphis Minnie’s that was just simply spectacular. Unfortunately, it recently went under.

I tried cooking with other locally available barbecue sauce recipes, but it was just not the same. People who had praised my cooking in the past were much less lavish with their praise. I just could not get the same results. I looked everywhere for a barbecue sauce recipe that would duplicate the flavor of Memphis Minnie’s, but it was all in vain.

Finally, I figured out that I would have to invent my own barbecue sauce recipe. I had no idea how to go about doing this, and had to learn all kinds of new things. Preparing a barbecue sauce recipe is not as easy as you might think. You have to strike a delicate balance between preserving the flavor, and creating something that is delicious immediately after it is cooked. Almost any good barbecue sauce recipe, it turns out, has to be used within a week of being prepared. Otherwise, it will become stale.

The fact that I lost my favorite recipe for barbecue sauce turned out to be a blessing in disguise. You see, once I started experimenting with barbecue sauce recipes, I found out quickly that you can make something that is much more delicious than anything you can buy in the store. As long as you are able to use it up within the next couple days, you can make something that is spectacularly flavorful and much more healthy than any commercially available barbecue sauce recipe. Knowing this, I have decided to never buy barbecue sauce again. Why would I, when I can make something that tastes much better? I never got so many compliments before!

Barbecue Grill

I have always loved cooking on barbecue grills. A lot of people think that a barbecue grill is easy, and it can be. Sometimes, all you have to do is get the coals going, throw on some neat, and enjoy the results. But like anything else, barbecue grilling can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. Just learning to get the temperature perfect, get good, even grill marks, and season the meat properly can be an art in and of itself. The bottom line is, you can take your barbecue grill as far as you want to.

Of course, the choice of barbecue grills will affect your outcome quite a bit. The most traditional way of doing it, of course, is with the charcoal grill. A charcoal barbecue grill offers a lot of advantages over other types. First of all, it is the most simple. There are no gas tanks, hoses or tubes. There is simply the grill, the metal frame that the meat rests on, and a tray under it to catch falling ash. It also gives you the most even, uniform cooking – that is, if you do it right. Of course, you have to give the coals plenty of time to ash over, make sure they are distributed evenly, and time the cooking well.

In some ways, a gas grill is much easier to use. With gas grills, all you have to do is light the gas and get to work. They allow you to cook outside and enjoy a barbecue ambiance without having to put up with the inconveniences of lighter fluid and waiting for the charcoal. All this comes at a price, however. The flavor will simply not be as good as on the charcoal barbecue grill. You will not get that smoky taste than everyone associates with barbecues.

Of course, you can take things in a really fancy direction and get a barbecue rotisserie grill. A rotisserie barbecue, when used right, can make unbelievably delicious food. Until you have had rotisserie chicken, you do not know what you are missing. It is completely out of this world. It is well seasoned, well flavored, and much more juicy than other kind of barbecued chicken. Using this style of barbecue grill does take a little bit of effort and timing, but it is well worth the work. The meal you prepare will be one of the best ones you have ever eaten.
